View Full Version : Serious engine problem

I was driving today and suddenly the engine started making a loud clattering sound almost like a machine gun, the more i accelerate the louder it gets, the car has next to no power and was struggling on hills. I came straight home and looked under the bonnet. The sound is deffinitley coming from in there somewhere. The car is un-drivable.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be, How i can sort it and approximate cost to fix?
I would appreaciate any help whatsoever.

Has had a funny few minutes though, bit it's Tom Jones lately.

Is it a mechanical sound? Maybe exhaust or plug playing up if not metal sound.

When the exhaust comes away from the CAT it makes that popping sound, it sounds almost like that, but its not the exhaust.
Is tapping/cam shaft expensive to sort?

Any lights come on the dash?

No, i appreciate your help. No lights come on, its not in the main part i.e where the cam shaft is its as if its behind that, its almost like it a pop corn popping sound.

Sounds like could be a manifold leak then. With speed increased, out of gear, gases would pass leak easier, so would be less apparant.
Try spraying wd40 or something down there, see if anything gets sucked in.
At least it's sounding like the engine isn't eating itself now :Cool2:

wd40 onto a hot exhaust , humm dont sound to good to me gives me visions of large flames and doggy sounds (woof) lol
