Pre-facelift ’99 (mini-facelift) CDX
No apologies for stating the obvious here as I needed this kind of detail!
Front doors:
- Remove tweeter by prising hinge end gently and unhooking from window edge.
- Pop-out kerb light (flip out with screwdriver) & disconnect
- Remove screw caps (x2) down hinge end of door card
- Prise off red cap from front of door lock knob - gentle prising from either side or for an easier option screw a small screw into it and pull it out with pliers, then spend a few pence on a replacement as no matter how careful you are, you will damage it!
- Remove padded area on door pull handle (pull out & upwards)
- Remove cover behind interior door latch handle
- Remove all screws - 2 down hinge edge, 2 down striker plate edge, 4 along bottom edge underneath door box, one behind grab handle pad, one behind door latch handle, one behind lock knob.
- The card lifts off in 2 pieces - the smaller piece contains the mirror switch (disconnect), the larger piece lifts upwards off of 3 clips on the window edge. If the plastic rail comes detached from the door card (very likely!) araldite it back on and to be doubly sure drill & screw also.
Carefully remove internal plastic door skin to gain access to lock mechanism. Unclip lock mechanism by flipping brown clips off of wire arms and unhooking - one at the front and one at the back of the mechanism. Undo three large torx screws around striker plate - NOTE, it may be easier to unclip the lock wires after you unscrew the mechanism - depends how many double joints you have in your fingers! Remove multiplug from base of solenoid & remove mechanism and solenoid by lowering to release outer door latch linkage and then lifting out. Replace solenoid by removing 2 screws and unhooking.
Re-fit by reversing the above - take care to ensure that the arm from the exterior door handle is located correctly in the top of the mechanism (it just sits freely in a plastic ring - no connectors). Of course, test lock before re-fitting door card! Refit the large part of the door card before the small.
