Over the next few months I have a couple of bits that need spraying. As I have to do a few bits I thought I might as well see if I can get a boot panel to spray while I'm at it.
I am a tad fed up of this one now and I could not be arsed taking it off, flattening it, spraying it and fitting it again. :shake

You can easily respray that one mate. Just spray some plastic primer on it, paint and then lacquer. Andy M did mine and it looks spot on

Yeah, and to buy both is gonna cost you quite a bit.
*AJO* also sprayed his panel, have a look at his pics, it looks quite good.

Well it does there :Cool2: Surely he had to rub it down a fair bit before spraying the plastic primer!
What I was thinking was to spray one in my spare time, get it looking good, then swap them over. That way I don't end up driving around with half the rear end missing :lmao:
and dont forget a turbo panel will look kinda gay with the standard lights.... "Gay" may not have been the word I would have used :lmao: - odd yes! just thought it would be easier to paint than a plastic one!
How much of a difference is there between the lights and the panel?
It will look crap if you dont change the lights too, there is a very noticable difference

From what I can gather, changing the lights on the panel is not so easy.
Looks like painting the existing one may be the option! Trying to source a good set of turbo lights, at the right price as well would prove somewhat a tuff task!
As Micky said, I think Tidzy has a panel and lights for sale.
Changing the lights on the panel is near impossible, I was going to try that as my reflectors have cracks in. After sourcing a mint panel and trying to get them off carefully I decided its easier to respray it!

Sorry.... Im being dim but how does spraying a panel make it a turbo rear panel? The turbo panels have darkened lights, the rest of the range doesn't....so that colour coded one on the burgundy Cav up there, isn't a turbo panel....?

no.
the reflectors are different on a turbo panle.
the orange ones are clear/smoked.
and the colour coding is done by the owner, and looks cock on.

It was actually done by Andy M, not me :lmao:

the turbo rear panels are still textured, like the standard ones, just colour coded, your best of painting the one you have

You don't understand that there is no hard work :lmao:
1) Clean the panel
2) Mask off the lights and the top bar using masking tape
3) Spray with plastic primer
4) Let it dry
5) Spray with base coat paint
6) Let it dry
7) Spray with lacquer
8) Let it dry
9) Take masking tape off
10) Put back on the car and admire
10 mins' work for the whole process ;) No sanding down, no flattening, nothing.
I mean, the turbo panel and lights do look better as they're tinted, but the middle painted bit is no different to above.
And since you've got money to burn.... :lmao:

When I go to spray anything it usually takes me weeks - not "10 mins'" work :lmao: If it can go wrong - it will
I was doing a lip spoiler. Sanded it, primed it - everything was fine. Then sprayed it - still looked the dogs... Clear coat next - looking even better - come back next morning :eh paint bubbling in the middle of it. Looked like a big gash in the spoiler :shame:
Sand again - no good - mark still there. Spray some primer filler - gone! spray base coat again - the mark reappears :eh
Anyway, don't ask me how long I spent at it. Ended up spraying more plastic primer, primer and base coat than a little on it and using a full tin of pre wipe. Got there in the end - still need a coat of clear but bubbling in the last 4 months so I reckon it's safe to finish.
I know if i take the panel off the car to paint it will fcuk up and I will end up goinng around with the back of the car looking crap with no panel on it. This way I can take my time, do it right and end up with a nice set of lights into the bargain thanks to Micky :)

reply if you bought the one off micky which is silver
you aont need to put primer on it, just flat back the silver with some 600 and then apply your base coat ;)

Poor auld Micky and Silver :lmao: He is doing his best to drop that image with some fancy redish colour :think
True about the primer though ;)
