Alternator urgently needed

Guys I urgently need an alternator that works to tide me over til i get my overtime pay and get a new one. Rob brought one down to me and it wouldnt fit he said I needed a V type? Whatever that means it makes no sense to me. I need it this weekend as I cannot afford to be off work due to no transport
