I'm off there for 3 weeks on Monday, so I thought I'd ask any of you that have been there, if there is anything that I simply shouldn't miss out on? ;)
Looking forward to the holiday but NOT the 13 hour flight! :shame:
Give the peas a miss, unless you have them in a pie......with cheese.

Mauritius is very scenic and the people very friendly. Depending on where you stay the food is generally fantastic - even buffet food. There is not that much to do outside of you hotel - esp in the area we stayed - approx 1 hour from the airport (p.s the taxi drivers drive VERY slow) But should be lots of water sports etc at your hotel.
One thing to defintly try if you haven't done it before is to swim with the wild dolphins in the ocean - that was an amazing experience. There is an area called the black mountains which is great view point - however was very overcast when we went so can't comment too much. You should hire car/ jeep for the day and have a day out taking in all the sites or you can hire a taxi guide for the day or 1/2 day which is not that expensive.
Lastly if you are a drinker - it's worth getting a taxi to a local supermarket and stocking up on beer, snacks, wine, local dark rum (£2 a bottle) and coke etc. It will be 10 time cheaper than at your hotel.
have a good time

Come to think of it, Tony French (parked next to me at YOTC in the blue Astra GSi) has been there several times to visit the family of friends he works with at Heathrow. He showed me a couple of packs of photos which he took on his visit this year, and the place looked lovely :)
But when it rains there, it REEEEEALLY rains :eh:
If you need any more info I can ask him? ;)
