I am looking at changing the Cav for a vectra V6.

What should I look for/what goes wrong?

I have seen a 97 2.5 sri hatch with all the toys for £2600ono, downside is it has done 90k and has no service history. Is this a good price?

JSBHolden,

At this price I guess its an early pre-facelift Vectra. I would suggest that this would be a worse all round car than your Cav V6.

However if you do want it then if its got no service history then you should do a cambelt change. You know, that massive long belt and all the tensioners. This will cost you around £250 to do at Vaux if its the same as the Cav. (Is this correct price for a Vectra MarkCDX Andy K etc??)

Other things - Does the Air con work? How many pixels are missing from that big radio display in the binnacle?

Sorry to be a little negative but early Vectras were rubbish and you need to be really sure its not a clunker. See www.honestjohn.co.uk car by car breakdown for more info.

Cheers for now

p.s Keep the Cav or seek out a seriesII Veccy.

Thats a bit harsh about mk1 vectras, i have a 98 V6 estate and not had a single glitch, 92K miles on the clock now.

Watch out for clonky steering - just bought Sri 140 T reg, I noticed on its service history it's had one steering column changed already and it is starting to go again.

Every Vectra I have driven has this problem and there are lots of posts about this.

Get one with a warranty unless you've got cash to spare...

Wish I still had my Cav GSi.....

I have an early, 96 Vectra and apart from a sticking window have had no problems from 79 to 86k. I know a few other people with early Vectra's and they haven't had any problems either but i agree about the cambelt change (even tho i havent yet had mine done :( )
