Id put an xe in it and if you want some more bhp get tb's and some fast road cams for it and the parts to do it are more easily available like the hose kits e.t.c. for the cooling system spending 500 on tuneing a redtop should see 175bhp and your up to V6 speed plus handling is allready bad with all that weight infrount so with a v6 it would be a job to get the handleing and brakeing to match the acceleration.

A lad I know has a Nova GSi with an XE running throttle bodies - it's been rolling roaded at 230bhp and it's sick quick!

hi i was wondering about the handling would the car actually hold the ground ? l,m sure breaks could be sorted, would stiffer suspension bigger wheels help ?

And what exactly would need to come with v6 engine ? can anything from nova engine bay be used ? does anything need to be cut or wealded etc jason ?

V6 in a nova is a novelty and not as good an idea as you think the v6 is to heavy and not great in a nova, unless you fudge it in the back and made it rear wheel !!!

As said, an xe would be best, let would give a bit more but requires more upgrading and throttle boddies would be the best for power.

Still, nothing wrong with being a bit MAD (http://www.v6mini.com/) from time to time, is there ?

putting a v6 in would be different as every one is putting redtops in nowadays

You also have to think about servicing it afterwards. Not being able to do anything without taking the engine out isnt nice.

Agreed. It's bad enough with an XE'd Nova trying to fit a new clutch cable with only an inch or two between the engine and the bulkhead.

IIRC Total Vauxhall said putting a V6 into a Nova is a step too far!

im sure similar was said about putting a v6 into a cav gsi but it has been done a couple of times (our very own darrenm with the only 4x4 v6 and myself with a lowly 2wd varient!!) ateotd, its down to an individuals imagination as to whats possible. i seem to remember darren overcoming a few obstacles when he built his up.

Saw it at Billing in 2003.

I want those TB's :D

The plug cover could probably be knocked up quite easily. My V6 is laid up for winter makeover so I might give it a go :think

Let me know if you do the plug cover etc, would be interested, looking at that it looks a damn site better than the plastic engine cover.

I should be quite easy to cut out a piece of ally or stainless steel. The screws that hold megane tail lights on have a machine thread one and and a screw thread the other. The screw thread could be sunk into the rocker cover and a nice anodised nut used to screw the cover on.

I wonder if my wife will notice the lights hanging off her megane scenic :lmao:

quite easy to do - i could get them made up..

the cam covers are plastic, so dont know how they could be powercoated...

Dunc
26-08-2005, 01:09 PM
Maybe the cam covers are sprayed rather than powder coated, would need heat resistant paint wouldnt it?! And Mtek, could you maybe price that up to make them? Would be very interested, is something a little different. Cheers.

Would it not be a similar process to plastic chroming, could probabl y be done but it'll be big £££

mtekperformance
26-08-2005, 01:39 PM
i reckon it would be very expensive and not worthwhile in plastic chroming..

I'll check on the spark plug covers - shame i dont have a spare cam cover to use!

Its a shame the cam covers are plastic - what was vauxhall thinking! :shake

The SAAB/later Vaux cam covers are metal, but they aren't as square and woudln't lend themselves too well to a plug cover. :shame:

I have various sheets of ally in the garage at the mo, and will start looking at this as well. ;) Once a template is made it should be a piece of p!ss to make more :D

I must get across to you soon as well. I was across East Hull (out as far as Patrington) about 3-4 weeks ago but I had no idea you where out that way. It won't be in the cav though as she is now sorn until the spring :( Picking up the AX DIESEL tomorrow, not even a TD

Dunc
26-08-2005, 02:24 PM
Would the plastic covers lend themselves to spraying? I've seen sprayed Vecrta cam covers (which are metal) As for the plug covers, that lad/lass has Vx written acorss his, how is that done?

I think the heat would do bad things to them Fred tbh.

Sure something can be sorted Jon :)

LOL!! Can't really afford to take me covers off for that long lol!! If someone were to supply me with a couple, i'd give it a go!! But what i really wanna do is ask the owner lol!!

Harry
26-08-2005, 04:27 PM
Surely if they are plastic they dont get hot enough to effect paint as that could sustain the same heat as the plastic ?

mtekperformance
26-08-2005, 04:38 PM
They are close the exhaust manifolds, which do get hot.

also, the plastic cam covers can warp iirc..

I've been thinking about getting a big solid chunk of aluminium and machining a cover out of it, incorporating clips for the leads, and some sort of design or engraving. Maybe a nice knurled anodised oil cap, oooh yeah, gorgeous! I'm most likely going to have access to a milling machine at college in october so it should be possible. I'll let you know how it goes if anyone's interested. Might make up a few if possible and distribute them here...

Bob,

Cam cover or spark plug clover?

Dunc
26-08-2005, 06:57 PM
Mustn't forget for a V6 ya need two of each either way, and machining out of solid ally could be rather costly :(

MK_ Bob
26-08-2005, 09:14 PM
Cam covers, then maybe tap a few holes and bolt on a polished spark plug cover. Not sure yet.

I mentioned it to my brother and he also said it might be expensive. But i'm sure i can pursuade the college to let have a couple of blocks at least. I was able to get a fair few bits and machine them at my old college for an induction set up on the golf. Could always pass it off as a project.

If not then i know of a very good, very cheap metal place that could sort something out for reasonable money.

Imagine it though, no leaks EVER! :D
