is it safe to hit my rev limiter i own cavalier 1.8i expression i hit the limiter at 75-80mph in second gear is it ok to hit the limiter will it cause any engine faults! anyhelp would be apreciated thanx!! :mmmm

i aint got much idea on these things but ive owned 2 1.8i's and goin 80 i 2nd and hitting the limiter aint gunna b good for it at all,
hittin the limiter to much i would think aint good for any car,

What's the point in a car having a limiter if its going to do damage if you hit it ?

Manufacturers put limiters at a certain point for a reason... to stop damage to the engine.

yes, (but im only guessing) with prolonged use it would cause damage, e.g if u always drove at 6000rpm do u think the car would last longer than a car drove at an average of 3-4k?

I hit the rev limiter daily. I have gone through 2 gearboxes, two cylinder heads, shit loads of tyres and burn't sooo much fuel you would not believe. It has been worth every penny. Drive it like you stole it. Thats the beauty of owning a cheap car.

iv hit the limiter once in mine doing 64 in 2nd but i dunno how the hell you can do nearly 80 in 2nd in a 1.8 :eh ? yikes

yeah, i thought that, the cav CD has wiiiiiiide ass ratio box and will do 64 in 2nd at full revs, theres no way the 1.8 with normal ratio box will do 75, let alone 60.

even the v6 box wont go much over 60, and my mate's 1.8 is well below that.. something is not right....
