Steering rack link arm replacement
Track control arms are around £30 quid from vx you get a kit the arm, nut and squeeze clips, good time too buy new track rod ends too why do it twice, as your old ones will be past their best anyway
Loosen the road wheels; then jack the car up and axle stand it, a car on the head hurts.
Remove road wheels, then try to undo the track rod end from the hub, it might prove impossible as the nut could just spin around.
Another way get an Angle grinder with a cutting disk on, and cut through the nut and the part of the track rod end that sticks through the hub, cut it flush once the bit falls away the track rod is free
Remove the dust cover over the steering rack link arm; it will have a vx squeeze clip on it, push a flat blade screwdriver under the bridge of it and work it loose, at this point you will see a very large nut attached to the steering rack, what I did to give me more room was to cut the link arm bar with the grinder, just make sure its well clear of the track rod end as you will need this to compare when you wind the new one onto the new arm
A Plummer’s wrench or large movable spanner is needed to undo the other end of the arm from the steering rack, they are on very tight, just undo the nut the best you can then remove the arm
Take your new arm and put the rubber gator on it then wind on the new track rod, compare it to the old one and it should be nearly right on the tracking, screw the new arm into the steering rack tighten it up and replace the cover, push the track rod end into the hub, put the nut on it and tighten that too
On the drivers side access is limited, but on the passenger side you can move the steering wheel and the nut will become easier to undo from on top in the engine bay
Count on around an hour per side and good luck:Cool2:
