The electric uppy downy-ness wasnt working on the recaro's, so i thought i'd have a go at cleaning the contacts up and take some pics on the way..(will resize them soon, but i'm at work at the mo...:)

TOOLS: Pen, paper,phillips driver,soldering iron, solder,sidecutters,sleeve/tape,tea,stanley knife, 800 grit paper, silicon grease/vaseline.

The switch pushes out of the plastic moulding thats on the outside of the seat. There is a small screw on the back of this moulding that holds it in place.
Remove the screw and the moulding will slide forward.(pic coming!)
Youre left looking at the back of the switch with soldered (un insulated :swear:) terminals. Push the switch out of the moulding.

MAKE A DRAWING of where each wire goes. The terminals are numbered if you look very closely at the back of the switch.(pic coming).

Now make sure you have the wiring diagram so that you can understand it.
Grab yourself a pair of side cutters and cut the wires one at a time, near the switch. Theres probably part of you that says "why not desolder it?"-well you can if you want, but i prefer working in the warm...:)

And youre left with a switch in your hand. Now take it indoors and desolder the stumps of wire left on the posts...

You can see the pivot points on the rocker part of the switch in the first pic.
(optional bit here) you can GENTLY prise the rocker out of the switch to remove several years of clag and wipe the rocker over to
make it shiney again.

Bottom of the switch: there are 4 clip lugs that hold the switch together. Gently prise them apart (stanley blade or terminal driver is handy here) and the switch will appear from its cover.

ta-daa....:)

You can see the contacts...

Part 2...

Ok, you can see the contacts...
Grab your 800 grit paper...

And tear off a 20mm wide(ish!) strip. Fold that in half lengthways and you'll have something like this...

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/ian_Rag/Picture007.jpg

Stick the folded 800 grit into one of the contac slots...

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/ian_Rag/Picture008.jpg

Press down on the lug that engages the contact....

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/ian_Rag/Picture009.jpg

and pull.....

http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f80/ian_Rag/Picture010.jpg

Repeat this on both contacts a few times. You should see some clag appear on the 800 grit...this is carbon and stopped you seeing over the steering wheel...:)

Once youve done this a few times, blow out the dust from in the switch.
Grab the stanley knife and put a little splodge of silicone grease/vaseline on the end (steady boys...:lips:), now slide that into the gap on the contact. this should slow the switch from doing it again too soon...

Contacts are clean...yay!
Slide the contacts back into the cover and replace the rocker (if you took it off).

Now theres two ways you can do this....
1) solder some suitable sized wire onto the terminals and put some male bullet crimps on the ends, so all you have to do is crimp female bullet crimps on the seat wiring (make sure you get the wiring right!!!!)
or
2) take the switch to the car and resolder the correct colour wires back onto the correct terminals.

Either way, i would personally put some insulating sleeve or tape over the solder joints to prevent shorts.

Clip the switch back into the moulding ('one side then the other' technique works well, its tight in there--or super glue the bugger!) and pull the wiring through the correct point in the seat, connect or solder and push the moulding back into the seat.Screw in the little screw at the front at voila....ignition on, check they work....
Hope thats ok....
