The eml has come on on our 1.4 1997 16v sport. It has simtec 56.5 system which stores P-codes, they are four figure codes. Anyhow, after reading them I get 1405 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve. BTW it has a very nasty idle.

Could some one shed some light on this? Where is the the offending item? Could it be the connector etc? Any advice appreciated, before I buy the Haynes manual:rolleyes:

change the Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve at the back of the engine, cylindrical looking thing with a wiring connector on top, and a bit of a bugger to do on these engines....if it were a tigra you'd be crying more....
its sticking and therefore causing the poor idle and running...i take it shes a bit jerky when driving too.

either remove and clean out or replce....cleaning out may not last at all.

Many thanks, Chris. The valve is now out, only took best part of two hours and now have red and sore forearms. Have cleaned and will see what happens, but it's a good bet I'll be going through the whole rigmarol again.
