always a good one this....i'll do the most common
ok then noises from:

rear....
check firstly nothing in boot (hey it happens)

check bootlid rubbers are adjusted so lid is down firmly to boot seal, can make annoying creak noise.

jack up the rear of car so wheels are free, chock front wheel, remove handbrake...now get hold of rear wheels top and bottom and rock....play here is either the top or bottom susp bushes...very common, knock badly when going, worn etc. get a second pesron to put hand round bushes whilst u wobble wheel

faint thud from rear, check the anti roll bar to rubbers and mounts, spanner check the clamps, known for being not tight enough.

other obvius stuff, loose items, exhaust knocking, etc tec had shockers faulty in past etc

ok, knocks from side:

windows crakcing...when driving, can diagnose and have window shut fully, gone? if glass , remove trim, lube and adjust runners.

knock from doors...usually the lock lastch on pillars, loosen the torx bolts slightly, and move them in a little. tightn, now re drive, normally cures.

knocks from front:

the classic, anti roll bar drop links...put on full lock, wobble these in your hand, very slight play knocks like mad when driving, simple to change, two bolts etc.

also roll bar mounts again, known to squak over speed bumps these too.

jack car up, check for play top and bottom diagnally and moving left to right...this checks ball joints, rod end, bearing, strut top etc...a second person with hand on items helps here

also obvious stuff to check, engine knock, subframe, exhaust, engine mounts etc etc

hope helpful, chrisSRI

Anti roll bar bush failure on vectras - results in knocking over bumps etc, but not constant problem - hard to detect - check bushes with car on the ground - much more obvious!

even more common, the roll bar bracket nuts being loose...

done yet another yesterday...did one wishbone susp bush for play and the os rear roll bar rubber bush bracket was loose meaning the bar rattled over bumps.

vectras..such a top car.... :crying_2:

Vibration between 1500 and 3000 rpm (regardless of gear) - seems like engine + gearbox moving / - gearbox mount?

Any ideas??

I believe my anti roll bars need replaceing, I have bought the parts and was wondering if they are easy to fit as in the Haynes manual it says u need to remove the subframe........Surely there is an easier way?

The bars are easy to do the top nut is a piece of cake but the bottom one is a bit more difficult but the is a big enough hole in the subframe to be able to get a ring spanner or open ended one in.
