Hi All,
Not sure this is in the right place? but here goes. Just before christmas on a trip to Birmingham, my vectra refused to start! turned over slow lights dimmed on the dash etc. Oh its a 1995 1.7td. So replaced the battery, a few days later the same again, so re charged battery and fitted a new altenator. Its been fine since up until last week when it was turning over slowly again, eventually its started. So i've now replaced the glow plugs, though very little improvement. Fuel filter was changed two months ago. Last night turned over a bit sluggish then fired up, ran fine. Popped in the shop came back out battery dead! Any ideas what could be causing this? i've checked the earth lead and the conections seem nice and clean:shake any ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mac

by the sounds of it mate i think your starter motor is weak(think these are geared starter motors really common to do this). If it does it again try giving the starter motor a tap (gently) on body (could be sticking)if doesn't work
you can bench test this before you but a new one,

take starter motor off car clip ground wire to body on starter motor and ground on battery, then clip + on to battery then arc across two studs on starter motor, then whilst is is turning over visually check dog (cranking sprocket) to see if it is turning at speed ( the bearing may be damaged/collapsed) or armiture on startor motor my be about burnt out which is normally the common case on geared starter motors.

hope this helps

kind regards danny.
