Yep I have the same problem too. I googled it and found out you can check your codes yourself with the help of a trusty paperclip and many diagrams. I have a 96 Vectra 1.8 16v with the 16 pin plug for diagnostics under my handbrake cover. It doesnt seem to matter how I short out the pins I cannot get the EM light to flash or go off! My local garage wants 68 to plug it in and tell me a code and vauxhall dealer wants 83! Rediculous. Any help would be appreciated. It also runs like crap, serious loss of power and it awful since the light came on so there is obviously something really wrong and its not just a dodgy sensor.

Took it to a local garage and they put it on their machine and it came up as a camshaft sensor incorrect signal so the car was running in rocovery mode. They reset it and now it seems fine. Its back to full power and hasnt cut out on me yet! fingers crossed.

Hi! My car is the VX Cav, 16V 2ltr manual. It recently started cutting out at tr lights, roundabouts etc. Following instructions on this site, I did a complete strip down of idler valve and motor (freed the solenoid) cleaned out the throttle body and re-assembled. Started it up but the engine running was a complete mess--running very rich and sounding like a tractor idling. EM light was on. Used the paper clip treatment giving codes of 15 (coolant temp sensor), 24 (vehicle speed signal), 49 (battery voltage high)& 71 (intake air temp sensor). Local garage replaced the alternator and the temp coolant sensor, but this has not cleared the fault codes. If the sensor fault has been cleared, does that code disappear from the ECU. I am unable to clear the codes myself.
I have decided that the ECU has developed a fault and thinking of sending it for repair to Automotive OU solutions (details on the web). £40 to test and £150 to repair. Had a look inside the Simtec 56 ECU box--can't see any obvious fault like burning or track breaks.
Any one got any cheaper alternatives or suggestions? Thanks in anticipation.
